Monroe Police Department
  Patrol Division

There are currently 19 Patrol Officers and 6 Sergeants in the Patrol Division, ensuring immediate response to calls for service.  Since the department is designated as First Responder to all medical emergencies, each patrol officer is a certified Medical Response Technician.  Patrol Cars  are equipped with an Automatic External Defibrillator to treat cardiac patients.

The patrol officers are the backbone of the police department, on-duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They immediately respond to all calls for service, conduct initial and follow-up investigations, investigate traffic crashes, control traffic and crowds at incident scenes, and report on all observed traffic hazards and public safety issues.

The officers patrol in modern cruisers equipped with emergency medical equipment, RADAR for traffic speed enforcement and on-board audio/video tape recorders for documentation of incidents. Each cruiser is also equipped with a Mobile Data Terminal allowing officers access to motor vehicle and criminal files, and the capability of preparing reports in the field.

The officers of this department receive continuous training to keep them up to date with changing laws and standards. Officers also attend specialized training in motor vehicle crash investigations, basic crime scene and investigative procedures, interviewing, sexual assault investigations, community police concepts, DUI enforcement and numerous other related topics.
