CHILD SAFETY SEAT TECHNICIANS
The Police Department is dedicated in protecting our children. For this reason, the administration continually seeks out programs that will ensure safety for children. One such program is the Child Safety Seat Inspection and Installation.
The department has three Certified Child Safety Seat Technicians to assist parents with the proper installation of child safety seats. Due to the fact that the safety requirements constantly change with each new vehicle year, technicians must attend periodic training courses with practical "hands-on" training to maintain their certification.
These officers are dedicated to this program and attend numerous Child Safety Seat clinics held throughout the State.
Citizens wishing the help of our technicians can make an appointment by contacting the Monroe Police Department at (203) 261-3622 between 8:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M.
Seat Belt & Air Bag Safety Tips
Air Bags and Seat Belts save lives but they are designed to work together. The most important safety step in any vehicle is for everyone to be buckled and for children to be properly restrained in the back seat - on every ride.
Children ages 12 and under should ride buckled in the back seat.
Infants should NEVER, EVER ride in the front seat of a vehicle with a passenger air bag. They should ride in a rear-facing child safety seat that is correctly installed in the back seat.
Young children should ride in a back seat in a child safety seat or seat belt that is right for their age and size, and that is used correctly.
For the correct use information of your vehicles seat belts or a child safety seat, follow the directions in your vehicle owner's manual and your child safety seat instructions.
Teens and adults should also buckle up on every ride.
When driving, be sure to sit as far back as practical - the U.S. Department of Transportation recommends that there be 10 inches from your chest to the center of the steering wheel.
